Shanthi Chandrasekar

Shanthi Chandrasekar is an artist and teacher exploring the connection of the scientific and the spiritual. While many of her works are influenced by her Indian heritage, her true inspiration comes from the mystery and majesty of the world around her. Among many awards, she received Individual Artist grants from the Arts and Humanities Council of Montgomery County, Maryland, in 2009 and 2013. She also won the Maryland Traditions Master Apprentice Award to teach Kolam drawing in 2010. Her works have been displayed in countless shows, galleries, and conferences. She is Exhibits Director at the Takoma Park Community Center galleries. Her daughter, Aishwariya Chandrasekar, is a sophomore at University of Maryland and is an apprentice under her mother in Kolam drawing.
